NDI Disability Owned Virtual Convening

The Small Business Hub, at National Disability Institute (NDI), is excited to invite you to its Third Annual Disability Owned Convening, a national and virtual event taking place on November 20 and 21, 2024. In the last two years, the Disability Owned Convening brought together more than 1,800 entrepreneurs and small business owners with disabilities, entrepreneurial support organizations, state vocational rehabilitation counselors, policy makers, financial institutions and disability advocates from across the country.
This fully accessible convening offers invaluable opportunities to exchange information, gain actionable advice and innovative ideas and hear from successful entrepreneurs who will share their knowledge and insights. The plenary and concurrent breakout sessions will cover a wide range of topics including access to capital, marketing, technology tools and business organization. Additionally, dedicated innovation economy sessions will provide support to businesses ready to scale.

This information brief provides a snapshot of the Vocational Rehabilitation recipients who exited services in PYs 2020, 2021, and 2022. Specifically, the brief provides information on the characteristics of recipients who are receiving services and their employment outcomes (earnings, hours worked, etc.). Follow-up briefs will present information on state outcomes for recipients exiting in self-employment.

Spotlight on Selected State Vocational Rehabilitation Agencies' Self-Employment Outcomes: PYs 2020, 2021, and 2022
The data for this brief was taken from information submitted by each State Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agency to the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) program years (PY) 2020, 2021 and 2022. PY 2020 for this report covers the period July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021; PY 2021 covers the period July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022; PY 2022 covers the period July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023. VR state agencies operate as (1) Blind VR agencies that serve individuals who are blind or have visual impairments, (2) General VR agencies that serve individuals with all disabilities with all other types of disabilities, and (3) Combined VR agencies that serve individuals with all types of disabilities, including those who are blind or have visual impairments.

Partnership with YesLMS
A large number of State VR agencies, both Blind and General, use YesLMS as their online learning platform. Over the summer, we partnered with YesLMS to add several of our self-employment training modules to the YesVR library. If your agency uses YesLMS, you can now access the following self-employment modules through your agency's YesVR platform at no additional cost: Core Self-Employment Concepts (six modules) and Self-Employment Through the VR Lens (seven modules).
